Preparing for Decarbonisation Starts Long Before the First Heat Pump

30 May 2026

Decarbonisation has become one of the defining challenges facing estates and facilities teams across the UK. Whether driven by Net Zero commitments, rising energy costs or ageing infrastructure, many organisations are now asking the same question: where do we start?

In our experience, the answer is rarely to begin by selecting new technology.

It is tempting to focus on individual technologies such as heat pumps, solar photovoltaics or battery storage, but the conversation is far broader than selecting the latest piece of equipment.

With F-gas regulations continuing to tighten, should organisations be looking towards natural refrigerants such as propane and carbon dioxide, or should we continue investing in synthetic refrigerants that may face further restrictions during the operational life of the equipment?

Understand your estate first. Build your roadmap second. Invest with confidence.

Final Thought

Decarbonisation is not simply about replacing boilers with heat pumps. It is about making better decisions today that will continue to deliver value for decades to come.
